Last week for Thursday Drink Night, the theme was “Not Love Just Lust” in anti-honor of the impending Valentine’s Day holiday. The event’s theme was described as, “Sure Valentine’s Day is coming, but let’s skip past love and get to a drink that you don’t want a relationship with, you just want to have and be done with. A shot, a cocktail with no mixer, something rough and delicious that’ll leave you feeling sated and a bit guilty later.” Here are some of the quick guilty pleasures of the night:
Scofflaw’s Den’s Sean Mike offered up an illicit thrill to down in a jiffy:
The Marshall
• 2 oz Moonshine (sub white dog whiskey if the authorities are around)
• 1/2 oz Lemon Juice
• 2 dash Aromatic Bitters
Shake with ice, strain into a single Old Fashioned glass, and shoot.
Frederic Yarm of Cocktail Virgin/Slut used a Daisy structure with some absinthe for complexity; the name is a homage to a Boston establishment’s “Crush on a Stripper” daily shooter special:
Crush on a Bartender
• 1/2 oz Mezcal
• 1/2 oz Drambuie
• 1/2 oz Lime Juice
Shake with ice and strain into a shot glass pre-rinsed with absinthe.
Zach Pearson offered up the aperitif of shooters, the Woody:
Woody
• 1 1/2 oz Lustau Palo Cortado Sherry
• 1 oz Cynar
• 3 dash Scrappy’s Chocolate Bitters
Stir with ice and strain into a rocks glass. Express orange oil over top and shoot.
Kindred Cocktail’s Dan Chadwick presented a drink that might be better savored than shot, but the choice is yours:
Cork
• 1 oz Irish whiskey
• 1 oz Punt e Mes
• 1 oz Dry Vermouth
Build in a double Old Fashioned glass with a big ice cube.
Finally, Jim Maserson a/k/a Sunny & Rummy continued on with the bittered theme to be savored with this unforgettably named drink:
Ribbed For Pleasure
• 3/4 oz Bourbon
• 3/4 oz Punt e Mes
• 3/4 oz Cynar
• 3/4 oz Bénédictine
Stir with ice and strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice cubes.
