Original Rye Whiskey Cocktails

Heart of Gold

Upcoming TDN – Rum

The rum-infused week sails on toward Thursday Drink Night and our ship’s hold is filled to the breaking point, leaving us drowning in delicious bilge water. So turn your cocktail shaker into a bucket and join us this week to create original rum cocktails.

The prize for the best original cocktail, as voted on at the Mixoloseum Blog, will be a bottle of the rumored-to-be-discontinued Lemon Hart 151 rum, courtesy of Mud Puddle Books.

Rye Whiskey Wrap-Up

How we managed to host 6 months of TDNs and not feature rye whiskey baffles me, but it was totally as hot as everyone expected. Rye found its way into nearly every brand of cocktail, and it even featured a conjugal visit between sriracha and cocoa powder.

Winning Cocktail

Simple, elegant, and coquettishly tasty, the New Carré won out this week, massacring the competition. Such defeat surprised me, as many of the other contenders were stout and quaffable in their own right. Jake Parrott has gotten himself a bottle of Rittenhouse Bonded for his efforts.

New Carré

  • 1.5oz Rittenhouse 80
  • 1oz Dolin blanc
  • 1/4oz green Chartreuse

Stir while thinking of New Orleans, strain into cocktail glass, and garnish with orange twist.

Um, am I missing something or is the picture of the New Carre actually a picture of the East Lost Angeles Cocktail from the Twitter feed?

I’m surprised this is the first time someone has caught me throwing pictures into the TDN wrap-ups ad hoc. Perhaps I should put photos of drinks that aren’t listed all at the bottom?

I’m actually surprised that the East LA Cocktail wasn’t even nominated. That was my personal favorite of the night.

As usual KP’s picture looks waaaaay better than the one I made.
